Braces for Teens

Give your teen the wonderful gift of a big, self-confident smile! Most kids are excited about having braces and look forward to the day they can show off their new smile. And they should be – braces are easier and more comfortable than ever before! There are many options, from the traditional colorful metal braces to clear ceramic braces, and, for our older teens, Invisalign Teen or hidden lingual braces.

Orthodontics Options for Teens

The years as a teenager are often the ideal time to start orthodontic treatment. Why? Adolescence is when children undergo their most significant growth spurt, and the jaws are part of this growth. Combine such growth with the eruption of the last permanent teeth and these years are a perfect time to make significant changes to the bite and alignment of the teeth. By age 12, most, if not all, permanent teeth have erupted and are in place, so we can easily detect crooked teeth, gaps, and bad bites. These problems will hardly ever correct themselves, so this is when orthodontic treatment is ideal for most children.

For teens, wearing braces is an expected part of life because they know that a beautiful, healthy smile will boost their self-confidence and change how others see them. Adolescence is an important time in anyone’s life and some teens dread the thought of having visible braces. While the majority of children choose the traditional metal braces, some older teens want a more discreet and aesthetic option. At Pitner Orthodontics, we understand this, which is why we offer Invisalign Teen and hidden lingual braces for teens as well as adults. Both Invisalign and invisible lingual braces align the teeth in a discreet manner so they are able to proudly smile in pictures and with their friends.

The path to your teen’s beautiful smile begins with an initial consultation with Dr. Pitner. At that appointment, we will take photos and any necessary x-rays so that Dr. Pitner can assess your child’s orthodontic problems and potential treatment options. Together with Dr. Pitner, you can then choose the best option for you and your child.
